world container ///

I’ve been a fan of  The Tragically Hip for years and years now. I’ve seen them in small clubs and huge arenas, and singing New Orleans Is Sinking at the top of my lungs with thousands of others doing the same is as close to a religious experience as I’ve ever had :-) Gord Downie is an absolute mad genius and I would love to one day buy him a cup of coffee, especially for writing beautiful words like these:

go to your touchless times
out where the water’s drying
go past the ‘No Attractions Past This Point’ sign
what you’ll find there are all flaws in progress
where all songs are one song and that song is, Don’t Forget

that girl ///

Alright, enough talk about running and food, let’s kick the year off with one of my favourite songs. One that brilliantly samples trumpets and a woman’s laughter — especially effective when paired with lyrics like:

One of these things just doesn’t belong here
Hey, look at that girl

track : That Girl
artist : Esthero
album : Breath From Another

paper bag ///

It’s easy to love a song that knows how to use a French Horn and a good metaphor.

Because I know I’m a mess he don’t wanna clean up
I’ve got to fold because these hands are too shaky to hold

track : Paper Bag
artist : Fiona Apple
album : When The Pawn …

a song for the lovers ///

If you haven’t heard Richard Ashcroft’s A Song For The Lovers, please do so now. It’s absolutely amazing, and pairs nicely with a brilliant video by Jonathan Glazer.

track : A Song For The Lovers
artist : Richard Ashcroft
album : Alone With Everybody
